To host Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs) in Illinois, the establishment must be one of the following:
- Licensed Retail Establishment – where alcohol is served (e.g., bar, restaurant).
- Licensed Fraternal Establishment – recognized 501(c)(8) or 501(c)(10) organization. Requires IRS documentation illinois.govigb.illinois.gov.
- Licensed Veterans Establishment – qualifying veterans group exempt under 501(c)(19); also requires IRS documentation illinois.govigb.illinois.gov.
- Licensed Truck Stop Establishment, which must:
- Be at least 3 acres (owned or leased) with a convenience store;
- Have separate diesel fueling lanes;
- Average over 10,000 gallons of diesel/biodiesel sold monthly; and
- Provide truck parking spaces illinois.govigb.illinois.gov.
What is the maximum number of video gaming terminals allowed in a licensed Illinois establishment?
The baseline active limit for qualifying establishments is 6 VGTs (subject to that performance caveat), while large truck stops remain capped at 10 VGTs.
